Have you been struggling to lose weight? People already know a lot about healthy eating, so why do so many find it hard to lose weight, or maintain a healthy weight? Sure there are people who suffer from medical conditions, which prevents them from losing significant amounts of weight, but here are a few other possibilities.
#1 You skip breakfast
Those who consume breakfast are more likely to maintain a healthy body weight.
#2 You starve yourself
Depriving yourself of food in an attempt to lose weight is counter productive. If you miss meals, food tends to get stored up, therefore metabolism slows down.
Eating small, regular meals is much more effective for weight-loss.
#3 You emotionally eat
Stressed by the things that go on in your life? Try writing about them in a journal instead of eating. Expressing your thoughts is one of the best ways to deal with them.
#4 You don’t plan ahead
You should write down 1 or 2 specific, realistic goals, which you put up in a common place and then read over frequently to help you stay focused.
#5 Your home is filled with junk food
Get rid of the junk and replace it with healthy foods you enjoy (or re-train your taste buds to enjoy).
Allow yourself a treat now and again – healthy eating isn’t about excluding all your favorite foods, it’s about enjoying treats in moderation.
#6 You eat too fast
Try chewing each bite more and slowing down when eating. TV watching can lead to unconscious overeating, so instead, sit at the table.
#7 You’re too lazy
Schedule in exercise daily, whether it is a walk or run, you will be burning off calories and living a healthier life.
#8 Busy with other things
Are you a full-time mom, a pro-blogger, or a business executive? It’s possible that you think you do not have enough time to get healthy but there are always moments in the day to be active- find the time!
#9 You lack a hobby
What does your free time consist of? Is it taken up with watching TV, or sitting at your computer? How about taking up a new hobby, walking to your friend’s house, or perhaps taking the kids to the park more often?
#10 You’re over confident
Do you drop 10 or 20 pounds, then start thinking you’re a “Weight-loss” champion? Next thing you know, you’re back on the pizza and beer and rapidly gaining back your original weight.
How can you avoid this yo-yo scenario? With each 10 pounds you drop, reassess your diet, and set new goals for the coming weeks.
#11 You have a negative attitude
Believing that you can change is really important. Empower yourself by positive thinking and believing that you really can reach your goals.
#12 “Tomorrow” never comes to those who put off their health!
Weight loss is a journey and it doesn’t become any easier if you wait, so start today!
#13 You just don’t care enough
It’s time to start taking care of your body! What are your goals for achieving a healthier lifestyle?
I’d love to hear from you – what difficulties do you have? What would help you overcome some of your weight loss struggles?
This whole post sounded really accusatory and blame placing due to the “you” statements. It would have been nice to not be put on the defensive. All these ideas are already well known anyways, your just summing them up in a more verbally aggressive way than most people choose to.
That just about covers it all. Does really matter any way?
Why is that everyone needs to weight 150 pounds.
Thanks for your feedback. I am just telling it like it is without sugar coating anything. I wanted to write with a straight forward perspective but am not trying to blame anyone. Sometimes it is refreshing to be blunt and put the truth out there. Sorry if you are offended, or anyone else for that matter.
I am not saying people need to weight a certain amount, I am simply calling people out on their excuses why they are putting their health aside. I am much more interested in people living a healthy lifestyle and not into how much a person weighs. I am all for people being different shapes and sizes but they can also take care of themselves.
You are right…I have implemented the little or no junk food rule but I haven’t been as adament about loosing the weight as I need to be.
I am glad to hear you are monitoring what you bring into your house, no point in having junk food in your house to tempt you. Out of sight, out of mind.
Very refreshing and straightforward. Sometimes straightforward is what is needed to pull people out of their sheltered little holes and make them realise that the main problem is their lack of self control.
So true, thanks John.
you sound like one of those hilarious people who hate fat people. or perhaps a self loathing fatty.
Ian, I am neither of those things. I am just being blunt and sometimes people need to hear the truth. I am a Personal Trainer and I care for all people. My blog is just a way for me to express my thoughts but I am not into bashing anyone. Thanks for your comment none the less.
Some of you people need to relax and get some exercise to burn off all that aggression. It’s refreshing that someone finally has the guts to tell it like it is. I for one wish I had been given that kind of blunt feedback over the many years I struggled with my weight, instead of people trying not to hurt my feelings. Thankfully I am now healthy after losing 90lbs the healthy way, and totally agree with everything Fantasha says here (I should mention that I do not know her personally.)
Fantasha thank you for being so candid. It’s nice to see a confident, eloquent woman who knows what the hell she’s talking about. Keep it up!
Thank you very much AJ for your thoughts and defending me, lol. I appreciate what you have to say and am very happy to hear you are feeling healthy again. Hope you stop by again to leave your thoughts.
I love your website, and I didn’t find your article accusatory just straight-forward
where are you based from? You should do some motivational speaking, I own a fitness studio in Mission and often times hear women explaining their difficulties getting back to their pre-baby body, and I think your very inspirational
Thank you so much Natasha. I am living in Vancouver, BC and am working towards becoming a motivational speaker. Thanks for the compliments.
I love your candidness. Although you are blunt, you raise good points without sugar coating the points. Sometimes people need to hear the straight up truth. Keep up the good work.
Its interesting that you state breakfast as point #1. You hit the nail on the head as this could be a reason why a lot of people are having trouble losing weight.
Starving one’s self is another point to note which you have captured very aptly. I also like the way you very nicely captured the point about being over confident. A lot of people actually start sabotaging themselves once they start achieving their goals. But I think I find the the last point as the main problem. Most people really don’t care enough. Anyway, thanks for the power packed summary.
Thanks Paramjit! I appreciate your detailed feedback.
